IDIOMS


Tighten one's belt:
To spend less money than you did before because you have less money.
Example:
Things are beginning to cost more and more. It looks like we'll all have to tighten our belts.
   

Get the boot:
To be forced to leave a job.
Example:
Which congressmen will get the boot from the voters in the next election?
All at sea:
If you describe someone as being all at sea, you mean that they are in a state of confusion and disorder.
Reading economic theory leaves me feeling at sea.
