 Sweep something under the carpet:
To try to hide or ignore a problem or keep a problem secret instead of dealing with it.
Example:
People knew that the police department was to blame for what had happened at the stadium, but the government tried to sweep it under the carpet.






Get their hopes up:
To make someone think that what they want is going to happen (false hope). If you tell someone not to get their hopes up, you are warning them that they should not become too confident of progress or success.
Example:
If we can't afford the trip then we shouldn't get the children's hopes up.
