Ancient Egyptian Biography for Kids: Ramses II

 



 1. His father was Seti I and his mother was Queen Tuya.

2. Ramses II was also known as Ramesses the Great.

3. He was 96 years old when he died.

4. He had about 200 wives and concubines.

5. He had about 96 sons and 60 daughters.

6. When Ramesses was 22 he went to Nubia for a campaign with his two sons.

7. Ramses II ruled in the 19th Dynasty and was the third king to rule in that Dynasty.

8. Prince Khaemwese was a very successful he was a high priest of Ptah,
governor of Memphis, was in charge of the resotation of the Pyramid of
Unas, and was also Ramses II's son.

9. Prince Khaemwese, Ramses II's son, was buried in The Serapeum.

10. Ramses II outlived his first 13 children.

11. Early in Ramesses life he was name co-ruler with his father, Seti I.

12. Ramesses went to many campaigns with his father in Libya and Nubia.

13. Where Ramesses I had started a new capital in Avaris, Seti I and Ramesses built a palace.

14. Ramesses took the throne when his father died in 1290 BC and began a group of wars against the Syrians.

15. On the walls of the Ramesses temple the inscribed the famous battle of Kadesh.

16. Abu SImbel, the Hypostyle Hall at Karnak, a mortuary complex at
Abydos, the Colossus of Ramesses at Memphis, a vast tomb at Thebes,
additions at the Luxor Temple, and the famous Ramesseum, are all built
by Ramesses.

17. Wives of Ramesses are Nefertari, Oueen Istnofret, his two daughters,
Binthanath and Merytamon, and the Hittite princess, Maathornefrure.

18. Ramesses was buried in his tomb in the Valley of the Kings until the
21st Dynasty where a lot of tombs were rombed so the priests removed
him and removed the gold too.

19. Ramesses ruled from 1279 BC to 1213 BC and that was 66 years.

20. After Ramesses years of reign ended it was took over by his 13th son, with his queen 


Istnofret, Merenptah.
