The goal of World Hapiness Day is to make the world a happier place.
In 2014, Ireland dropped from 10th to 18th happiest country in the world, how can this be reversed? Encouraging happiness, well being and kind behaviour in schools can make a big difference. Evidence shows that promoting kindness and happiness among young people directly affects social and emotional wellbeing and reduces disruptive behavior.
In the classroom: Take a look at the resources on the Action for Happiness website. Some are epecifically aimed at schools. A flyer was produced to promote the day in Ireland and also has some useful guggestions for engaging pupils.
International Day of Happiness
Happiness is a mental or emotional state of well-being characterized by positive or pleasant emotions ranging from contentment to intense joy. Happiness is a fuzzy concept and can mean many things to many people. 5 things you can do for International Happiness Day to make yourself and the world happier:
1. Greet others with smile.
2. Perform random acts of kindness for friends and strangers.
3. Spend at least half an hour donating your time.
4. Stand up for someone who is being treated unfairly.
5. Express your gratitude to someone whom you haven’t told before.
